Margaret Locke – Featured Beau Monde Author

Today’s featured Beau Monde author is Margaret Locke!

Photo of author Margaret Locke.A lover of romance novels since the age of ten (don’t tell her mom!), Margaret Locke declared as a teen she’d write romances when she was older. Once an adult, however, she figured she ought to be doing grownup things, not penning love stories. Thank goodness turning forty cured her of that silly notion. Margaret is now happily ensconced back in the clutches of her first crush, this time as an author as well as a reader. Because love matters.

Margaret lives in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley in Virginia with her fantastic husband, two fabulous kids, and three fat cats. You can usually find her in front of some sort of screen (electronic or window); she’s come to terms with the fact she’s not an outdoors person.

Sally Orr – Featured Beau Monde Author

Sally OrrSally Orr is today’s featured Beau Monde Author

After her graduate education at the University of California Irvine and Caltech, Sally worked for thirty years as a Ph.D. scientist specializing in the discovery of gene function. Several years ago, she joined an English message board, where she posted many, many examples of absolute tomfoolery. As a result, a cyber-friend challenged her to write a novel. Since she’s a hopeless Anglophile, it’s not surprising that her first book is a Regency-era romance. Today she’s writing three novels for Sourcebooks. The first one, The Rake’s Handbook: Including Field Guide, was published on November 4, 2014. The second, When a Rake Falls, will be published on April 7, 2015. She lives with her husband in San Diego, surrounded by too many books and not enough old English cars.Sally Orr book

Kathryn Kane — Featured Beau Monde Author

Kathryn Kane is today’s Featured Beau Monde Author.

Tuxedo cat with green eyes sniffing a pink rose

Kathryn is a historian and former museum curator who has enjoyed Regency romances since she first discovered them in her teens. She credits the novels of Georgette Heyer with influencing her choice of college curriculum, and she now takes advantage of her knowledge of history to write her own stories of romance in the Regency. She now has a career in the tech industry but she has never lost her love of the period and continues to enjoy reading Regency romance novels and researching her favorite period of English history. Though she was born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona, Kat now lives and works in Boston, Massachusetts. She misses the warm sunny winter days of the desert southwest, but access to the rich research collections of the libraries of Boston is some compensation for the snow and cold of New England. Kat is occasionally assisted (or impeded) in her writing by a furry feline friend whose primary responsibilities are neighborhood surveillance and cuteness, at both of which she excels, along with exuberant purring.

Deflowering Daisy is Kathryn’s debut Regency romance. As a play on the title, she has woven a number of snippets of floral history into the story, some of which may be unknown even to life-long Regency aficionados. Others maybe known to some readers, though probably not used in the contexts in which they will be found in this story. An extended excerpt can be found at Kat’s web site.

Tammy Jo Burns – Featured Beau Monde Author

Tammy Jo Burns sepia photo near an ornate stone bench

Tammy Jo Burns is today’s Featured Beau Monde Author.

From a young age Tammy Jo could always be found carrying around books to read while watching her grandmother’s soap operas with her. She read anything and everything she could get her hands on and even made up skits and stories for herself and her friends to act out. Once she outgrew the children’s and YA books, her mom introduced her to an entirely new world—contemporary romance. Upon discovering she had a love for history, she began devouring historical romances. One day, sitting in a college British History class, something the professor said made her think, "I wonder." She quickly called her mom (also a writer) and ran the idea by her. After being told, "Of course you can do it, you’re my daughter," the rest, as they say, is history.

Tammy Jo currently shares her love of reading with the next generation as a high school librarian, and shares her personal life with her demanding dog trapped in a cat’s body, Ajax.

Her debut novel, A Traitorous Heart, Book One of The Reluctant Lords series, can now be found on Amazon.

Jane Lark ~ Featured Beau Monde Author

Jane LarkWhen Jane completed her first novel it was because she was determined not to reach forty still saying, I want to write.
You might think Jane was inspired to write by Jane Austen, especially as she lives near Bath in the United Kingdom, but you would be wrong. Jane’s favourite author is Anya Seton, and the book which drew her into the bliss of falling into historical imagination was ‘Katherine’ a story crafted from reality.

Jane has drawn on this inspiration to discover other real-life love stories, reading memoirs and letters to capture elements of the past, and she uses these to create more realistic plots.

Illicit Love

Now she is writing Regency Romance for Sapphire Star Publishing, and her debut novel, Illicit Love, was released May, 2nd.

Susana Ellis ~ Featured Beau Monde Author

SusanaEllisA former teacher, Susana is finally living her dream of being a full-time writer. She loves all genres of romance, but historical – Regency in particular – is her favorite. There’s just something about dashing heroes and spunky heroines waltzing in ballrooms and driving through Hyde Park that appeals to her imagination.

In real life, Susana is a lifelong resident of northwest, Ohio, although she has lived in Ecuador and studied in Spain, France, and Mexico. More recently, she was able to travel around England and visit many of the places she’s read about for years, and it was awesome! She is a member of the Maumee Valley and the Beau Monde chapters of Romance Writers of America.

Alison Stuart ~ Featured Author Post

Award winning Australian author Alison Stuart always wanted to be a writer. As a teenager she scribbled turgid historical novels in shorthand notebooks, some of which are still in existence. Only when she dislocated a shoulder in a skiing accident, which left her stranded in a snow bound chalet in the Australian Alps with nothing for company but a notebook computer, did she dare to write the story that had been tugging at her sleeve for so long.

Her family moved from Kenya, where she had been born, to Australia in the late 1960s. Alison had imagined Australia as a place where kangaroos roamed the streets (just as, no doubt, children in Australia imagined Africa as a place where lions roamed the streets), but the inner suburbs of Perth seemed short of roving marsupials.

She studied Law and Arts at university and has worked all her life as a lawyer, both in private practice and in a range of different organizations including the military and the emergency services and a fatal attraction for men in uniform (including her husband) may explain her leaning towards soldier heroes!

Alison has been a finalist in competitions, including the shortlist of the Catherine Cookson Fiction Prize. In 2007 her first two novels BY THE SWORD and THE KING’S MAN were published. BY THE SWORD won the 2008 Eppie Award for Best Historical Romance.

These days Alison is writing full time and is officially an empty nester, with a wonderfully supportive husband (and resident military expert) and two needy cats to keep her company.
